FEARLESS Interview

We have contacted the Symphonic Heavy Metal band FEARLESS, great epic and orchestral phatos as a fantasy movie from Brazil!
The Ep cointain 4 songs in vein of Nightwish, Virgin Steele and Rhapsody of fire, now available in the digital market thru Heart of Steel Records.

1. Hi guys, tell us when you formed your group?
Fearless was formed in mid 2010 out of the friendship between the founding members wich were at the time Davi Vasconcelos, Daniel Vasconcelos, Gabriel Belozi and Giovanni Rezende. About one year later Pedro Farinazzo replaced Pablo Teari on the bass guitar and Alex Sottani joined our quest on the keyboards.

2. What is the genre of your sound?
Our genre is defined primarily by the fusion of power metal, neo-classical music and folk elements with an epic, symphonic, theatrical feeling. Many people call it "Epic Power Metal" for short.

3. What is the source of inspiration for the lyrics? Who writes them?
The lyrics are all written by the Vasconcelos brothers. The main lyrical content at the time is based around ancient mid eastern lore and culture, old tales about wars, kings, fantastic adventures, and even romance.

4. Do you think that English is the universal language now?
Certainly, yes. Even more in the heavy metal world. Composing in english is a formidable way of reaching further horizons.

5. What are the reasons by which you decide to give your band the name "Fearless"?
FEARLESS is the perfect name for our band because every song transmits and praises qualities like honor, wisdom and ultimately bravery. Many of these qualities are in extreme absence in the world we live in today. To stand tall in a society full of treachery, foolishness and dishonor you need to be FEARLESS.

6. Your EP titled "Ancient Wisdom" will be promoted in international media, what are your expectations?
Since the worldwide release of "Ancient Wisdom" we have already been experiencing the good results. Our expectations are to prepare the media and the fanbase for the full length album wich we are working very hard on now. It will be a blast!

7. How did you decide to sign the digital record deal with Mirko DeFox's HEART OF STEEL RECORDS in Europe?
We first heard of Heart Of Steel Records when our friends from the band Glitter Magic signed a deal with Mirco. We were searching for a record label to release the full length album but Mirco seemed very enthusiastic about the songs and we decided to release the EP as well.

8. To promote the record are you planning a live tour?
We have been touring very frequently in the last year but now we are planning to settle down a bit and focus on the new album wich is becoming very promising. Anyhow, we are always willing to perform live and open to gig propositions because we enjoy it very much, I bet we won't be able to stay far from the stages for too long hahaha!

9. Have you played in some important festivals?
We have performed in many important festivals in our region, even sharing the stage with the brazilian legend Andre Matos once. Also our vocalist recently made a paticipation in a very especial international release, but we are not supposed to talk about it yet. You will hear of it soon!

10. I would like to have your own point of view about the poor sales of the CD's, it's caused by the internet? technological development?
or it's changed the mentality of the fans?
Certainly the internet plays a big role on the current situation of the music industry. The firt reason that comes to our mind for the poor CD sales is piracy of course, wich was made much more easy by the internet itself. But there is also a good aspect of it, with the technological development many talented artist are now able to record at home with small budget and the internet provides the perfect audience that maybe those artists would never reach thirty years ago. All those positive and negative elements must be considered by the artists and labels so the music industry can evolve along with the times.

11. You're certainly not a international mainstream band, how do you judge the underground music scene?
We believe the heavy metal scenario is about to experience a new "80's" soon. An increasing number of big bands are showing up captivating more and more fans, and the so called "Mainstream Music" is already getting very saturated and boring, even to casual listeners. We have high expectations that the days of the heavy metal being at the underground are counted.

12. Tell us a few funny anecdotes, in the past?
There are so many! hahaha As you can see in the band pics we use garments based on a medieval theme. Sometimes that includes knives and swords... So there was this gig last year where a drunk guy suddenly pass the security, climbs up the stage, grabs the medieval knife from Daniel's belt and starts to dance with it. Show must go on, so Daniel joined him in a freaking dance trying to sing and take the knife from his hands at the same time. It was hilarious!
